dumest generation

Being called the dumbest generation was a quick assumption. The author of this book implied that our generation does not like to read, which in many cases are false. He also mentioned that we were targets for Jay walking on the Jay Leno show, majority of those people are older than 30; which was the passing point of not being part of the dumbest generation. The author also implied that we spend to much time on the computer. I personally know someone who plays games on the computer near to 5 hours a day and made an incredible amount of money for a game on the computer. The grown ups who are not part of the stereotype are also dumb. Many children can do so much more on computers than adults. The funny thing is all that is on the computer is common sense and all you have to do is read. So if we are the dumbest generation because we like to read, can make hundreds by a computer game, and having common sense on the computer than I am proud to be part of that dumbest generation.

I agree with Becky that technology does not make us the dumbest generation. I also noticed her point that most people on the Jay Leno show were over 30 which was the cut off point for the dumbest generation (something I did not notice earlier when i read.) Another point that I agree with Becky is that it is not considered not reading if you aren't reading a book because you are also reading when you read online.

I agree with you and I really liked the points you made. I did not think about how we have a lot of common sense on the computer, but that is completely true. I also liked your point about Jay Leno and the people being over 30.

I think you did a great job of pointing out the flaws in the "dumbest generation" argument.

The argument against us really does nothing more than point out less than favorable traits present in our generation. It completely ignores the positive accomplishments made by our generation and the potential we show.

I like the way you disputed the 'facts' that Bauerlein presented in his 8 reasons that Gen Y is the dumbest generation. Our generation is creative and changing the way society percieves intelligence- maybe, one day, we will change the definition of the word. I particularly enjoyed your closing statement- as I too, am proud to be a part of this generation (which is def. not the dumbest one...)

your points are interesting in that you believe we aren't the dumbest generation because we have used our knowledge in computers rather than other areas that adults basically want us to. I agree in ways that it is true that we may be technically savvy and maybe more so than adults to a degree but there are still many things that we lack on and could be better at. I agree about the jay walking half the people are adults and its kind of stupid that he would target us about that. I guess they judge us by all thefacts we can remember rather than on the abilities that we have.

very nice commenting. i agree with you that if the technology is there for us, available at pretty much any time, we should use it. why should we let it go to waste if it is a better method to accomplish work, express ideas, organize ourselves? at times we can be dependent on computers, but if we know how to use them wisely, there is no problem with it.
